Surprise, It’s Your Wedding!
A wedding typically involves months of planning and trying out different wedding stuff before we make decisions based on not only our experiences but also our friends’ and families’ opinions. A surprise wedding is a sure way for you to get things done your way and without worrying about other people’s inputs. Here are a quick few tips on how to pull it off.
Be on the Same Page
The first thing to do is to get your fiancé on board with the idea and make sure that the both of you are on the same page. It is a good idea to have some sort of cover story so that your stories would collaborate when ‘interrogated’ by your friends and family members. You will probably need to tell a few white lies here and there to throw them off the scent but it will be worth it when they see you on your surprise wedding day.
Mum’s the Word
The second thing to do is to keep silent about what you are doing or planning. You don’t have to tell a complete lie about the surprise; you may tell them that you are planning a party, or even an engagement party and leave it at that. The fewer people you tell about the surprise, the less likely it is to get it out. Remember, mum’s the word!
Tell ONE Confidante
We know that it is not easy keeping a secret as big as this to yourself, so go on ahead and tell one person about it. Choose someone who can keep a secret and preferably someone who can help you with planning a wedding too. Your maid of honor is usually a good choice as you are more likely to listen to her advice.
Coordinate the Wedding Wear
If you don’t want your guests and wedding party to show up under-dressed to your surprise event, you should coordinate their wedding wear accordingly. You may tell them that they will be attending a formal party so that they can dress appropriately. You can also prepare dresses for your bridesmaids and suits for the groomsmen to change into when they arrive on the actual wedding day.
Create a Dummy Event
You may choose to tell your guests and the people in your wedding party about a bogus event that you are hosting and that they are invited to join in the festivities. With this dummy event, you will still be able to get them to RSVP to your wedding without letting the cat out of the bag.
Tell Your Vendors
If you must tell someone about this surprise wedding, then you should definitely tell your vendors about the true purpose of the event. They will be able to advise you more appropriately if they know why and what they are needed for. Of course, do let them in on the secret but also kindly ask them to keep the secret to themselves.
